4 Quick Facebook Fixes to Optimize Your Fan Page

More often than not, it’s the little things that get you. You manage to get the family to the airport with all your luggage, the tickets, and your sanity intact, but realize the toddler isn’t wearing shoes. The day of the wedding arrives and things are going smoothly until suddenly you see that you’ve reserved a limo for tomorrow instead of today.

There are a lot of details that can be overlooked when setting up and maintaining a Facebook page for your business, so it’s important to make a list and check it twice, or maybe even three times. (Take that, Santa!) Many of these little things are easy to fix, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be up to snuff.

Fix #1: Keep It Current

I’m not just talking content, although regular posts, fresh content, and evergreen content are always a good idea. If it’s been more than a few months since you last checked your business’ About page on your Facebook Page, maybe it’s time for an update.
Your address, contact information, links to other pages, photos, and all that jazz has got to be current and correct. Not only will that improve your page visitor’s experience, but it will also help optimize your Facebook page for search engines! SEO, it’s not just for your blog or website.

Fix #2: Organize Your Tabs

Effective organization is as important for your Facebook Fan Page as it is for your business’ website. If they can’t find what information they want in the order they want it, they’re not likely to visit again, so taking just a few minutes to make sure your tabs are in order can really help boost return traffic and leave a positive impression with your visitors.

What order you have your tabs in is really up to you and depends on what your goal is for your Facebook Fan Page. If you’re running a Facebook contest, you’d likely want to make sure the tab for it is ‘above the cut’, or visible without having to click the ‘More’ tab. If you want to drive traffic to your business’ website, place your ‘Visit Our Website’ tab before your ‘Photos’ tab.

Fix #3: Customize Your Cover Photo

Your cover photo is one of the first things visitors will see when they visit your page, so it’s got to be dressed to impress. One of the biggest mistakes businesses can make on Facebook is just having a stock photo as their cover photo. That just says ‘lazy’. What you can do is take advantage of your business’ assets! Show off your pretty products, if you’ve got them, or your office, if it’s got a great location. Go out and grab a (high-quality) picture of your helpful employees assisting other customers!
Alternatively, you can use your cover photo as advertising space, or to announce special promotions and events!

Fix #4: Use the Right Sized Images

Goldilocks didn’t sleep in the bed that was too big, or too small. She picked the one that was just right. Using correctly sized images will make your posts and your page look more appealing to peoples’ eyes and thus more likely to like your page or posts. Refer to our social media image size cheat sheet to make sure your images are attractive on Facebook and all your other social media pages!

That Wasn’t So Hard, Was It?

Each of these tips aren’t difficult to do, but they can do wonders for your Fan Page once you get them done. Don’t forget to keep checking and changing things on your page as necessary though. Your business is always changing and improving, so your business’ Facebook page should keep up too!
