Social Media Updates That Make Recruiters See Red

With the popularity that social media sites are gaining and their increased usage, it is becoming quite hard to separate personal and professional lives. It has become quite a common habit to share everything we experience through social media sites, whether it is a picture on Facebook or a personal opinion that is tweeted. These social media sites are becoming popular on not only a personal level, but also at a professional level. Companies now have an active presence on social media websites so that it is easier for them to stay in touch with employees and customers.
With this active use of social media sites by professional colleagues it becomes necessary to make sure you are constantly aware of the way your social profile is taking shape. What you post and share, even on a personal level with friends, can have consequences at a professional level. This remains a vital fact to keep in mind whether you are looking for a new job, or even looking to keep your present one.
To see a better picture
It is important that you expect recruiters to go through your social media profiles to gain a better understanding of you, to see if you can fit in to their company. Assume that they will find photos of you online and see comments that are posted online as well. Online content that can be perceived, as a doubt against your character or integrity may be the reason you are not offered the job. There are many things on your social profile that may prove to be a problem. These may include: provocative and inappropriate content, posts about drinking or using drugs, negative comments about previous employers or even sharing their confidential information, displaying a lack of communication skills and unacceptable discriminatory or racial comments.
Be careful of what you post
If it seems difficult for you to land a job then it may be time that you set your social profiles right. It is not uncommon for many people to lose their current jobs due to social media posts as well. Waitresses that blast ungrateful customers, teachers ranting about students, lying about staying home due to a sickness and appearing active on a social media site, bad mouthing your employers methods or outbursts against bosses are all updates that can reach the notice of employers and leave your job at risk. With the large number of such incidents that have gained immense popularity over the internet people are starting to think twice about what they post online and who can view these posts.
It is important to make note and remember that while social updates can cause you to lose your job. They can also be the reason as to why recruiters don’t want to hire you. Recruiters like to know that the people they employ can fit in to the company well and finding questionable information related to you online can be the reason a recruiter would rather pass over you than take a risk by hiring you. Containing harsh opinions is also quite difficult as people today have the tendency to state their opinions and make reviews regarding all topics, whether it is to do with an online photo or an iPage review for web hosting services.
