5 LinkedIn Company Page Tips to Enhance Your Marketing

#1: Optimize Your LinkedIn Page

Showcase what your business has to offer. Smart marketers who build out their products and services page tend to attract twice as many company followers than those who don’t.
Use this page to tell members what you do best and give them compelling reasons to follow you.
Remember that you can link to just about anything from your products and services page, including your latest and greatest white papers, case studies or how-to content.
You’ll best attract customers when you turn your products, services or anything else relevant to your business into focal points. Here are just a few examples of what to feature prominently:
  • Products: The software you sell or the apps you’ve built
  • Services: A list of your résumé writing services or your tax consulting brochure
  • Other: Webinars you host or your company’s white papers or ebooks
    hubspot products
Use the products and services page to raise awareness of your brand, promote career opportunities and educate potential customers on your products and services.
Company pages are also very SEO-friendly. Google previews up to 156 characters of your page’s text. Be sure to edit your description so that it leads with powerful, keyword-rich sentences. Plus, members can search for companies by keyword on LinkedIn, so include words and phrases that describe your business, expertise and industry focus.
Finally, remember to include your company contact information, descriptions of offerings and your areas of expertise. Your primary attributes can also function as keyword tags.
Once you’ve done that, ask your customers to recommend the products and services they favor. Authentic advocacy equals credible endorsement!

#2: Engage Your Audience

With LinkedIn company pages, you can now like and share content as a company. Before, you could only do so as an individual. This is a big change, so use it to engage other members!
For example, your company page admins can like and respond to member comments that are made in response to something you post on your company page.Consider sharing your customers’ and prospects’ content—from their corporate blogs, product updates and company posts—to get these kinds of interactions going. And don’t forget content from their employees! You’ll develop trust with buyers while developing a more professional corporate brand identity.
Hands down, content that’s customized to your followers’ and customers’ professional interests resonates the most.
With LinkedIn’s targeted updates, you can easily tailor your message to your audience. For example, when you create an update, you can choose to share it with “all followers” or to a “targeted audience.”
Choose the latter to send your update to a subset of followers based on geography, industry, company size or level of seniority. Just as with any social network, LinkedIn is a community where targeted engagement is essential for success.
targeted company update
Company updates allow your administrators to directly engage with viewers and followers of your company page. You can post and share items like company news, promotions, relevant industry articles and YouTube videos.
When you update from your company page, use these two essential tips for creating compelling content:
  • Think like a journalist. Don’t bury the lead! Concise intros and snappy headlines are more likely to result in higher engagement than long, dry copy. You have only moments to show your audience why they should care, so being succinct is crucial. Grab your readers’ attention right away by starting your update with your most important thought.
  • Make your content valuable and “snackable.” Develop quality content that is quick to consume, so members will want to share it with their connections and networks. In fact, our data shows that the most successful updates include a picture, chart, video or link to an article. When you do not have a link or image to include, engage your audience by asking a question.
Lastly, keep in mind that professionals will check your updates on multiple devices.

#3: Attract More Followers

The more the merrier on the social merry-go-round. Here are some simple, effective strategies for attracting more followers with your company updates:
  • Engage your colleagues. Employees are 70% more likely to engage with your company updates, so don’t forget to ask them to do it! Initiate communication and make it easy for them to respond.
  • Cultivate a larger following with a multi-channel approach. Encourage your teammates to add a link to your company page in their email signatures. If needed, ask your designer for help creating a customized banner or button.
  • Add a Follow button to your website. Your web team can pull code for a Follow button from developer.linkedin.com to add to your blog or website. This lets LinkedIn members follow your company with a single click.

Add a Follow button to your website, making it easy to grow your LinkedIn company page follower base.

#4: Follow the 4-1-1 Rule

The 4-1-1 Rule was coined by Tippingpoint Labs and Joe Pulizzi of the Content Marketing Institute. The rule states:
“For every one self-serving tweet, you should retweet one relevant tweet and most importantly share four pieces of relevant content written by others.”
4 1 1 rule
Consistent posting: Create an editorial calendar of updates within your company, and highlight relevant third-party material. Then share it with company followers. Image Source: Tippingpoint Labs.
Apply this simple rule to your activity on your LinkedIn company page, and you’ve struck gold. You’ll authentically engage in conversations, build awareness and interact with LinkedIn members without giving the impression that you’re a self-centered know-it-all.
For marketers, the 4-1-1 Rule is particularly useful when applied to building relationships with prospective customers. This kind of trust hinges on your ability tofoster an informative dialogue regularly. It also keeps you at the front of prospects’ minds as they move through the buying phase.
As Jay Baer says, “Sell something, get a customer for a day. Help someone, get a customer for life.”

#5: Analyze for the Prize

Company page administrators have access to LinkedIn Analytics that help them better engage with their followers and monitor their success. There is a goldmine of insights available to help you focus and refine your strategy, including:
  • Engagement % — Engagement = interactions + clicks + followers acquired. In other words, this metric answers the question, “Of those who’ve seen my update, how many are truly engaging with it?” Look at updates with higher engagement rates, and note the type of content, people targeted, date and time. Then you’ll know how to optimize future content around what’s proven to work.
  • Demographics — From seniority and industry to company size and function, demographics give you a snapshot of your followers. With this information, you cantailor the type of content you share on your company page, as well as the tone in which it’s delivered. Demographics will also help you determine segments to target with targeted status updates.
  • How You Compare — Knowing how your company page compares to your competitors’ pages is a great way to determine whether you should change your strategy.

Bonus Tip

Host a company “Lunch & Learn” to evangelize the power of company updates, and share tips and tricks with your team. This can have a significant impact on your company page’s overall reach.
Consider third-party apps like GaggleAMP and Addvocate to show employees which updates are most important for your company and are pre-approved for sharing.

How to Boost Engagement on Your LinkedIn Company Page

#1: Leverage LinkedIn Groups to Find Engaging Content for Company Followers

Aside from studying what your competitors are doing on LinkedIn, you should spend time in the groups where your target market is engaging. You’ll want to find out what interests them there.
Which “manager’s choice” article is getting the most attention this week? What discussions are getting the most likes and comments? Take time to analyze and read what’s engaging your target market. All of these discussions will help you discover topics and ideas to post in your company stream.
Furthermore, you can search for specific topics in groups to quickly see what type of questions and issues are drawing the most engagement. Simply go into a group where your target market is active and click on the Search tab. You’ll then see the box on the left-hand side where you can search for posts by topic.
group search
Use the Group Search feature to find the most engaging content on a given topic.

Create a log of what types of topics, questions and challenges are being discussed by your target market.
You can also dig deeper to find the most engaging discussions month-over-month by analyzing the group’s activity data. Simply click on the More tab in a group you’re part of and select Group Statistics in the drop-down menu.
group stats
The Group Statistics link will provide you insights into demographics, group growth rate and activity by month.
Next, click on the Activity link in the chart navigation to see trends in engagement, as well as what months received the most comments. This insightful look can help youfigure out trends and what topics might be more interesting at certain times of the year.

Once you know the periods with high engagement, go “back in time” by scrolling to the bottom of the group discussion stream and click on the Go to Archive link. This can help you find older posts with high engagement.

If you scroll to the bottom of group discussions, you’ll find a Go to Archive link that will help you see older discussions faster.
Tip: Groups are also a great place to “test” status updates to see what type of engagement they receive before adding to your company stream. Not sure whether a certain post would be valuable to your followers? Add the update into a group first to see what type of interaction you receive.

#2: Post Status Updates Often (Especially Every Morning)

Recent data from LinkedIn reveals that posting status updates in the morning is the best time for businesses to engage followers. That said, it’s also important toschedule posts throughout the day to increase post visibility and engagement with those logging in later in the day.
This is why you should use a tool like HootSuite to automate LinkedIn posts when you’re not able to manually update. Automating your status updates in LinkedIn allows you to schedule posts on weekends or late at night when you’re not working on your LinkedIn company account.
hootsuite
HootSuite is a free tool that allows you to schedule posts for your social media channels.
Using HootSuite to schedule posts doesn’t mean you should schedule a bunch of posts and never log in to check metrics. You should still check your engagement metrics for each post to see what content is resonating with your followersand dig into your Page and follower insights to see what’s working and what’s not.
Tip: Create a spreadsheet to log days, times, post impression count and engagement stats. This will help you figure out what days/times are giving you the most reach. This will also help you figure out what topics are getting more or less engagement.

#3: Add Pictures, Files, Questions, Links and Contests in Status Updates

Now that you can add images and files to your LinkedIn company status updates, there is no excuse not to test out pictures and files along with your text updates. As you know, images make your status updates “pop out” in the stream, and this can help you get more eyeballs and engagement on your status updates.

Add images to your posts help you get more attention and more engagement with your posts.
Interesting links with status updates can help you pull in hundreds (if not thousands) of clicks to a URL you are promoting. So take advantage of driving relevant traffic to a blog post you’ve written for your target market.
stats
Number of likes and comments can signal high engagement, but the click-through data can provide even more insight into what’s engaging your audience. (Note: Engagement stats listed in example above are not real data.)
Aside from testing images, files and links to interesting articles, you should alsoexplore using contests to gain more followers (and potential clients).
London-based Reconverse started up a LinkedIn page to reach out to the human resources community. Even though they had less than 200 followers, their first status update below helped them gain 1,431 likes, 124 comments and 87 followers because of the shares and virality of the post.
reconverse
Test out a fun contest to see how many likes, comments and shares you could receive even if you don’t have many followers.
This simple status update also helped them attract 15 delegates and 4 new supplier clients for their events. And their second “contest” status update (offering an iTunes gift card) received 318 likes, 11 comments and 12 requests for more information about Reconverse events. Check out the full Reconverse case study to learn more.
Tip: Use LinkedIn’s Targeting feature to craft specific status updates for select audiences that are following you. For example, use a targeted update to reach out to non-employees only with offers and contests.

#4: Promote Your LinkedIn Company Page Badge and Product Recommendations on Your Website

One simple way to increase engagement on your LinkedIn company profile (and attract new followers) is simply by promoting a link to your LinkedIn Company Page on your website and email signature line. This will inform fans and potential clients about your LinkedIn profile, which can help you establish credibility and more followers.
In fact, Wild Apricot added their LinkedIn product reviews on their homepage, which increased conversion rates by 15%. You see, adding product reviews from real customers (via LinkedIn) adds more credibility for products. This helped them increase leads—not to mention new followers for their Page.

Wild Apricot displays reviews of their products on their homepage, which boosts conversion rates on their site and increases LinkedIn followers.
By promoting LinkedIn recommendations on your website, you’ll gain more followers and engagement on your LinkedIn Company Page. If you’re going to do this, make sure to get approval from the person who will be featured on your home page.
Tip: Test long vs. short product recommendations on landing pages (or pages that you want to boost conversion rates on). You may also want to test type of recommendation based on the visitor coming to your page (e.g., first-time visitor vs. frequent visitor).

#5: Use LinkedIn Recommendation Ads

LinkedIn Recommendation Ads allow you to promote your products and services to your target market. These ad campaigns can help you increase engagement with your Company Page by bringing in more traffic and product recommendations. And each time someone recommends your product, it is automatically shared with that person’s followers (which can bring you even more traffic and recommendations).
at&t recomendation ads
Recommendation Ads allow you to showcase a product or service with a specific target market. AT&T now has 104 people recommending their AT&T Networking Exchange product.
Hewlett-Packard used Recommendation Ads to gain 20,000 new followers, 2,000 product recommendations and 500,000 viral updates in just a few weeks.

5 Creative Ways to Use LinkedIn Company Pages

#1: LinkedIn—Develop a Campaign

Let’s start with LinkedIn. Why not learn from the source itself? LinkedIn’s own company page offers some insight into what works for effectively engaging your target audience.
In many cases, LinkedIn’s company page status updates are tied to an ongoing, larger campaign. Most recently, LinkedIn posed a question to its identified “influencers” who contribute their unique thought leadership content to the site. The question asked of these thought leaders was, “What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?”
linkedin status updates
LinkedIn shared updates to create community dialogue.
Seventy LinkedIn influencers contributed their answers to this question. LinkedIn posted many of the responses to their LinkedIn company page as status updates in order to share the content with followers and build engagement.
What was great about this idea was that it has provided LinkedIn with a series of ongoing, fresh and interesting status updates for their company page. Not only did LinkedIn share the answers from various influencers, they asked followers to also answer the question to create community dialogue.
Developing a campaign that drives a related series of status updates on your company page can increase engagement and keep the conversation going and expand your company’s visibility as followers share and like your content.
Here’s how to develop a campaign on your LinkedIn company page.
Create a campaign that poses an interesting question to a group of influential bloggers in your industry who can respond via their own blog post.
Not only can you highlight each of these contributors on your own company blog, you can also create a series of shareable and engaging status updates for your page!
Remember to ask your followers to answer your question as well.

#2: HubSpot—Create Leads

It’s tough to find a company with a presence on LinkedIn making better use of the LinkedIn company page than HubSpot. HubSpot has been quite successful in generating a consistent flow of leads for their software product through their LinkedIn company page!
What HubSpot has done so well is determine which types of marketing offers work best to generate business leads from their LinkedIn company page.
For example, under the Products/Services tab, you’ll find marketing offers for a free demo of the software and some free educational materials (ebooks) related to utilizing the software.

HubSpot shares lead generating updates on their LinkedIn page.
HubSpot has also done a tremendous job of gathering recommendations for their software product with almost 200 individuals weighing in.
hubspot recommendations
HubSpot has many recommendations on their company page.
This “social proof” can be very powerful in encouraging a prospective customer to take that next step.
Here’s how to create leads with your LinkedIn company page.
Regardless of what products and services your company sells, create marketing offers such as free demos, a free consultation or free ebooks or special reports, and share information on these to generate leads from your LinkedIn company page.
Also, consider sending a LinkedIn message to your existing customers through your company page asking them to write a recommendation. These recommendations can easily be published directly to your page!

#3: CNBC—Cross-Promote Other Social Channels

CNBC is a global financial media brand with a fairly robust presence on LinkedIn. In fact, the company was named as one of the top LinkedIn company pages for 2012.
Aside from sharing timely financial and economic news on their page, CNBC is using their LinkedIn presence as an opportunity to promote their other social channels.
cnbc products services linkedin
CNBC uses the LinkedIn company page banner to promote their other social networks.
In the first banner image, CNBC has a call to action to join them on Facebook. The second image as you scroll through is a call to action to join them on Twitter and the third is a call to action for a free trial demo of the CNBC Pro Product.
Using this real estate to blatantly cross-promote additional social media communities for CNBC is a great idea.
Here’s how to cross-promote your other social channels on your LinkedIn company page.
You are allowed to have up to 3 rotating banner images under the Products/Services tab. Within each banner, you can embed a link so the viewer can click through to an outside web page or to another social media profile.
Develop banner images and embed links for your company page’s Products/Services tab to cross-promote your other social media communities.
Keep in mind that businesses can run targeted ads on LinkedIn that lead directly to the Products/Services tab. (Running ads on LinkedIn is a paid feature.) Consider ways to use this to your advantage.

#4: Facebook—Find New Talent

Facebook is utilizing its LinkedIn presence primarily to attract and recruit talent on the world’s largest professional online network.
The Careers tab is a paid feature on LinkedIn, but many brands are successfully leveraging it to announce job openings and find new talent.

The Facebook LinkedIn page appeals to new talent.
Facebook showcases a compelling banner image and tagline: “Making the world more open & connected” at the top of their Careers page tab. They also provide a simple yet motivating description of what it means to work at Facebook: “Working at Facebook means doing what you love.”
Facebook links directly to its other Facebook web properties further down on the page, and provides a short video overview that gives potential candidates an insideview of what it’s like to work at the company.
Overall, Facebook’s Career tab is an excellent example of providing a compelling and attractive value proposition for drawing in potential candidates for employment.
Here’s how to implement this tactic on your LinkedIn company page.
If you’re in the market for sourcing and recruiting talent, a paid Careers tab on your LinkedIn company page might make a lot of sense.
Through the numerous features available on this page, you will be able to showcase your company story and job openings effectively.

#5: American Airlines—Engage Your Audience

American Airlines is doing a couple of things well on their LinkedIn company page.
First, the main company page banner is a big, beautiful American Airlines airplane flying through the sky. This is a captivating visual that grabs your attention as soon as you land on the page.
aa banner image
The American Airlines LinkedIn page banner captures your attention.
Why is a captivating visual important? Without a strong banner image at the top of your LinkedIn company page, the page just doesn’t look complete or attractive. It is doubtful that a visitor will want to further explore the page if it doesn’t have any visual appeal. Unfortunately, many large and popular brands still don’t have a banner image.
The other thing that American Airlines is doing well is that they are utilizing company page status updates to offer followers an opportunity to enter and qualify for a unique travel experience!
aa status update
American Airlines posts updates to engage their audience on LinkedIn.
In order to enter the contest above, the visitor has to guess the landmark from an aerial view image that American Airlines has posted on the update.
These are exactly the kinds of status updates that have the potential to go viral!
How to engage your audience on your LinkedIn company page.
Make sure to create a banner image to insert at the top of your LinkedIn company page to make it more visually appealing.
Next, consider creating a series of contests or sweepstakes promotions that are relevant to your company and can be shared as status updates. This is a great way to generate buzz and build followers for your page.
Develop Your LinkedIn Company Page
LinkedIn company pages continue to evolve with newly added features and functionality.
These pages can help grow the visibility of your company and further engage with clients, prospects and advocates. Additionally, your LinkedIn company page can serve as a credible extension of your digital brand!

5 Tips for Optimizing Your LinkedIn Company Page

Do you have a LinkedIn Company page?
Have you employed the newly designed look and features?
If you haven’t created a LinkedIn Company Page, now is the time to do so.
The new layout makes it easier for people to find, follow and engage with your Company Page.
Here are the new design updates and features that you can take advantage of on your Company Page.

#1: Banner Images

Bring your Page to life! Add a banner image to the top of your LinkedIn Company Page.
banner image
Social Media Examiner's LinkedIn Company Page banner.
The default landing tab for your Company Page is the Home tab. Your banner image will show up at the top of this tab.
This is very similar to the Facebook Cover Image that you are able to utilize on your Facebook Business Page, although the image size is different. The size of the LinkedIn Company Page banner image should be 646 x 220 pixels.
Use the banner space to illustrate and extend your unique branding and messaging.
Note that you will not be able to place a clickable URL behind your primary banner image.
sprout social

Don’t be afraid to make your banner image eye-popping or attention-grabbing! This is an opportunity to earn new followers for your Page.
Without collecting followers, any updates you post to the Page most likely will not be seen.
LinkedIn has stated that you only need 100-200 followers for your Company Page to reach the tipping point to start making an impact and driving engagement. That’s great news!
The “About” section of your Company Page has been moved down to the bottom of the page. Still, it’s a good idea to review this area and make sure it’s up to date.

The "About" section now sits at the bottom of your LinkedIn Company Page Home tab.
In the Specialties section of your company description, you will want to use relevant keywords for your company so you’ll be found in LinkedIn searches.
Take full advantage of the Home tab and maximize all of the features here!

#2: Career and Products Now Featured on Home Tab

Rather than burying information about your company’s products and services or careers, there are now sidebar spaces on the Home tab that feature these sections of your LinkedIn Company Page. This makes it easier for visitors to find what they are looking for on your Page.
dell sidebar features

If you are not utilizing the Careers tab section of your Company Page, you will see a default image of your logo icon and some default text that says “Learn more about our company and culture.”
For the Products and Services section in the sidebar, the first product that you’ve created in the Products and Services section of the Company Page will be featured here. Make sure your first product is the primary product you want featured.
Don’t be afraid to get creative with the products or services that you create. Think outside of the box. They don’t have to be products and services that you offer in the traditional sense.
Rather, you could showcase free downloads or special reports, a free assessment or even a conference or event on your Products and Services tab.

Showcase interesting offers from your company under the Products/Services tab.
The goal is to get your Company Page visitors interested in learning more about how you can help them accomplish their goals! Showcasing unique content in this tab will drive engagement and potentially encourage recommendations for your business.

#3: Product Recommendations More Prominently Featured

There’s one major update on the Products tab of your Company Page.  Product recommendations are more prominently featured in the sidebar! Any visitor to this area of your Page can see who in their network is endorsing your products or services.
These recommendations are extremely valuable and are a display of social proof. We’re influenced by what our peers and network connections recommend.

Ask for Product/Service recommendations, which are now prominently featured.
The best way to get recommendations for your products and services is to ASK!
Consider running a campaign and reach out to existing clients, customers, partners and vendors and ask them to provide a recommendation.
You might also ask their permission to showcase these same recommendations on your website or blog.

#4: Featured and Targeted Updates

The updates you share to your LinkedIn Company Page are now going to be front and center on the main Home tab. Images from your updates will be larger and more visible as well!
Given that updates are going to be highly visible, you will want to make your updates valuable, relevant and interesting!
recent updates
Use images to make your LinkedIn Company Page updates more visible and engaging.
When you post an update, you will need to copy/paste your link to the specific article and LinkedIn will pull in the image and post for you. From there you can edit and publish.
Keep in mind that you can delete the URL that you pasted into the update after LinkedIn pulls it in. This will keep your update looking more clean and concise.
delete url
You can delete the URL from your status update once the content has been pulled in.
Don’t forget to customize the text in your update and ask a question or ask for feedback to drive engagement!
You can also post your events here and even create polls to share with your followers.
To achieve the best opportunity for engagement, I recommend that you post your company status updates manually rather than by relying on third-party applications.
Another new aspect of sharing updates to your Page is the ability to feature an update and move it to the top of your Home page. This is very similar to the way you can highlight or pin a featured post on your Facebook Business Page.

Feature select updates at the top of your LinkedIn Company Page.
New targeting options for your updates are also available. In other words, you candecide which groups of followers you would like to target with each specific Company Page update.

Target your LinkedIn Company Page updates to a specific segment of your followers.
Remember to review how your updates are performing. After 24 hours, LinkedIn will show you impressions and engagement for each of your Company Page updates. In some cases, these updates can perform better than running paid advertising on the network!
Consider featuring posts at the top of your Home page that have received good engagement from your Company Page followers.

#5: Visibility on Mobile Apps

Last but certainly not least, LinkedIn has added Company Page visibility to its mobile applications and to the iPad specifically.
mobile apps
LinkedIn Mobile Apps feature Company Pages.
You can view Company Pages that you follow; find and follow additional Company Pages; see how you’re connected to the company through your network; and view job openings, the latest Company Page updates and suggested or similar companies to follow—all from within LinkedIn mobile apps!
At this time you cannot update your LinkedIn Company Page from any of the mobile apps. However, just by building out your Company Page, you can become visible and valuable to employees, clients, customers, partners, vendors and prospects anywhere and everywhere!
Clearly LinkedIn is focused on providing companies, brands and small businesses an opportunity to tell their stories and engage with customers and advocates through Company Pages.
Take full advantage of the ability to extend your brand and achieve greater visibility,as well as add value to your industry and marketplace.
Not only can you benefit from within the LinkedIn network, but your LinkedIn Company Page will also create a valuable search result for your company. Any positive link and gateway to your brand online is a positive for your business!
